The Australasian College of Pharmacy welcomes yesterday’s announcement from the Hon Yvette D’Ath MP, Queensland Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, for the commencement of the North Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot.
The North Queensland Pharmacy Pilot will enable patients in the state’s north to access high-quality, integrated, and cost-effective primary healthcare at their local community pharmacy from late 2023 onwards.
Queensland pharmacists participating in the North Queensland Pharmacy Pilot will be required to undertake 12 months additional post-graduate training.
College President, Ms Michelle Bou-Samra, recognised the many parties involved leading to this significant announcement and step forward in pharmacy.
“I would like to acknowledge the Palaszczuk Labor Government, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch, and community pharmacists in Queensland for being leaders in progressing pharmacist’s scope of practice.
“As community pharmacists in North Queensland commence their journey of practising to full scope, the College will be by their side providing the additional training needed for them to offer more primary healthcare services for their patients.”
“Our recent announcement of complimentary urinary tract infection training for Queensland pharmacists is a clear example of how the College develops and delivers education in response to pharmacist’s needs and industry advancement.”
The College will be working in partnership with our university partners to train community pharmacists participating in the North Queensland Pharmacy Pilot.
“In the near future, as more states and territories commence the journey to full scope of practice, the College will offer the appropriate training and education to all pharmacists across Australia, taking the profession to the next level” Ms Bou-Samra said.
